Most digital nomads are from the western world. Technology workers and immigrants in the US, Canada, and Australia are overwhelmingly from India. Even then the digital nomads are fewer. I think the reasons are two-fold.

  1. The Indian passport is weak. Traveling on it is much harder for digital nomads who are overwhelmingly young.
  2. India has a low cost of living. When someone from the western world moves to Bali, Thailand, Mexico, or Argentina, their cost of living goes down significantly. While the cost of living for Indians, relative to India, mostly goes up or stays the same, this reduces the incentive to move.
